Johnny Shults, age 42 of The Woodlands, formerly of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville, with Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Johnny was born on November 15, 1968 in Gatesville. He grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1987 as Class President. He was an avid sportsman and played varsity football. He was Gatesville Hornets most valuable back for three years and received the Hornet Pride Award. He was a marathon runner and belonged to a cycling club, riding his bicycle from Houston to Austin for Multiple Sclerosis. He enjoyed being in his running club, the Rainbow Chupacabras and they nicknamed him “Johnny Rocket”. He completed the Austin Half Marathon in 2010. In his professional career, he worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Gatesville and later for Noble Drilling Company, working offshore. He received a degree in Laser Technology and currently worked for Tracey Technologies as Production Manager, building diagnostic laser machines for optical disease detection. Johnny loved life to the fullest; he loved his family and was loyal to his friends. All who knew him said he never did anything halfway. He was a former member of Trinity Baptist Church and Liveoak Baptist Church of Gatesville and was currently attending a Baptist church in The Woodlands. He is survived by his fiancé, Adrienne Melton of Austin; parents, J.W. and Audrey Shults of Gatesville; sons, Logan Shults of The Woodlands, Landon Shults of Gatesville; brothers, Tommy Shults of Mission, Jerry Shults of Gatesville; grandson, Braxton Reece Shults and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Shults. Memorials may be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Gatesville, 206 South 7th St., Gatesville, TX 76528.
