James C. (Jack) Lipsey, age 92, of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Coryell Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Gatesville with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5:30-6:30 P.M. on Monday at Scott’s Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service and one hour following the service in the First Baptist Church Parlor. Mr. Lipsey worked for Community Public Service which later became Texas-New Mexico Power Company for 35 years. He retired with 30 years of experience from the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department, was Fireman of the year in 1971 and President of the fire department from 1963-1971. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and served on many committees at FBC. He was a Gatesville City Councilman beginning in 1975. World War II, 1942-1945, serving with the 34th Engineer Combat Battalion, 5th Engineer Special Brigade. He partnered with wife in Helen’s Confections catering business which specialized in wedding cakes. He served as a Coryell Memorial Auxillary volunteer. He worked with Cub Scouts. Mr. Lipsey was a Mason and received his 50 year pin from Gatesville Masonic Lodge in 2002. He was predeceased by parents, Charles L. and Ruth Moore Lipsey; son, Danny Ray Lipsey; brothers, Curtis Lipsey, George Lipsey, Bill Lipsey; and sister, Polly Choat. Mr. Lipsey is survived by his wife of 65 years of marriage, Helen Chambers Lipsey; children, Dianna Thompson and husband, Mike of Woodway, and Tom Lipsey and wife, Connie of Houston; Grandchildren, Jeanne Jester of South Africa, Amy Jester Sherwood of Waxahachie, Tracy Lipsey Brigman and husband, Ivan of Maypearl, and Michael Lipsey and wife, Erin of Houston; step granddaughters, Dr. Tanna Thompson of Round Rock, and Nikki Cheek and husband Brian of Ft. Worth; Eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Powell of Rowlett and Mary Beaty of Beaumont and an aunt, Grace Moore Bratton of Gatesville.
