Gladys Long Franklin age 96 of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at a local care center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 18, 2011, at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charles Grossman officiating. Burial will follow at the Valley Mills Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Gladys was born April 30, 1915 in Coleman County, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Canelia (Neely) Moore VanDyke. She grew up and went to school in Coryell County. She married Clarence Long in 1931; he preceded her in death in 1944. She then married Melvin Long in 1945; he preceded her in death in 1963. She later married Aubrey Franklin in 1977; he preceded her in death in 1986. She worked for sixteen years at the Gatesville public schools as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over forty years. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Franklin; brothers and sisters, Jewell Edwards, Joe VanDyke, Verna Veazey, M.B. VanDyke, J.C. VanDyke and Myrtia Hughes. She is survived by her sons, Gene Long and Terry Long both of Gatesville, Kenneth Franklin of Moody; daughter, Marsha Bundy of Waco; sister, Joyce Mensch of Gatesville; five grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Eastwood Baptist Church, 2518 E. Main St., Gatesville, Texas 76528.
