Mrs. Bertha Scott, age 94, of Houston, formerly of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2011 in a Houston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Loyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors an hour before services at the funeral home. Bertha was born September 27, 1917 in Mexia, Texas. She was the daughter of Tom and Virgie Whatley. She lived in the Coryell County area her entire life until moving to Houston because of her health. Bertha (Puden) was a member of the Gatesville Church of Christ and loved her Lord and her family. She spent her entire life caring for others. She spent many years working at local care facilities. Bertha was a generous, kind, and giving person. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Wesley Scott in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents and all seven of her siblings. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Shaw and husband Barry of Pasadena; sons, Brack Scott and wife Mary of Austin, Richard (Dick) Scott of Houston; grandchildren, Brent Shaw and wife Fulvia of Dickinson; Amy Shaw Chilson and husband David of Pasadena; James Scott and wife Michele of Georgetown; Tim Scott and wife Sara of Round Rock; and Sarah Miner and husband Darrel of Austin; great grandchildren, Austin Scott, Rylie Scott and Braeden Shaw. The family would like to express their gratitude to her caretakers for the last few years, Marta Alfaro, Ana Canton, Ana Pena and Nela Arias. They showed her love and kindness each day. Her son, Richard (Dick) cared for her lovingly at his home in Houston and his siblings will be forever grateful for his love and care. Memorials may be made to the Gatesville Church of Christ, 2417 E. Main St., Gatesville, Texas 76528.
