Annie Lipsey, age 95 of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in Gatesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery. There will be no set time for visitation. Annie was born on January 26, 1916 in Coryell County. She was the daughter of the late John Nelson and Mary Emma Jones Holland. She grew up in the Ames community and was from a loving musical home, with her four sisters that preceded her in death, Erie Box, Lorea Benner, Reba Watts and Louise Graham. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1934. She married Curtis Lipsey on December 3, 1938. They resided in Gatesville, serving their community in First Baptist Church, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Gatesville Volunteer Fire Dept., Senior Center and Coryell County Museum. She opened the first child day care center in Gatesville. Lipsey Play Skool offered educational pre-school activities with heavy emphasis on character building. Annie treated everyone with kindness and respect. She loved her students and touched many hearts as she prepared them for the big world. She sang, danced and read with them each day. She lived by The Golden Rule everyday and tried to instill it to her students. Her generous nature extended to all, whether it was to share garden vegetables, a kind word or a recipe. She was also preceded in death by her husband on June 11, 1993 and a grandson, Clay Jones on September 2, 1995. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Jones and husband Barry of Forney, Nancy Oats and husband Mike of Coppell, Sandra Hayman of Hico; son, Doug Lipsey and wife Liz of Gatesville; four grandchildren, Casey Jones, Corby Jones, Rob Lipsey and Sam Oats; and several nieces and nephews.
