Oney Cox

Mr. Oney Cox, age 79 of Leon Junction, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family and two babies (dogs), Posey and Killer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bruce Cox officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Turnersville Cemetery. Mr. Cox was born on January 28, 1932 in the Pulltight community of Coryell County. He was the son of the late Dan and Lena Mae Aldridge Cox and was the youngest of fifteen children. He was drafted into the Army in 1953, serving two years of active duty and six years in the Army Reserve. He worked in the oil fields of west Texas for 22 years and then went into construction, retiring in 1995. He married Penetha Cathey Ray on April 29, 1977. He is survived by his wife, Penetha; son, Oney S. (Tooter) Cox of Gatesville; daughters, Melody Taylor of Odessa, Talitha Manning and husband Doug of Gatesville, Kathy Brase, Brittani Brase and Staci Brase Kinnear of Leon Junction; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and a special Army buddy friend, J. C. Christie of Oklahoma.
