Melba Henderson Hunt, age 91 of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Gatesville. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville, with Rev. Gene Gurley officiating. The family will receive visitors following the services at the church. Interment will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Old Klondike Cemetery in Klondike, Texas. Mrs. Hunt was born on August 31, 1920 in Klondike, Texas to the late Charles Maston (Mack) and Eunice Edwards Henderson. She graduated from Klondike High School in 1938. She attended business school and had office positions until her marriage to R. W. Hunt, Jr. on October 9, 1941. They lived in Klondike until R. W. was drafted into the Army during WWII. Melba moved to Oak Cliff and worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at a defense company while R. W. was overseas. In 1945 they returned to Klondike and raised their family there. Her husband preceded her in death in 1968 and Melba became an independent woman for the first time in her life. She continued the cattle business with her brothers, which her husband established. She worked at two stores in Cooper and most importantly, raised her then fourteen year old daughter. She was an avid reader, reading at least one paper a day from front to back, plus many magazines. She was a Mavericks basketball fan and so very much enjoyed the Cooking Channel on television. She moved to Gatesville in 2004. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cooper and has attended the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville after moving here. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Hunt Goolsby and husband Wynn of Lake Fork, Debbie Hunt Bergman and husband Chris of Gatesville; her beloved grandson Hunt Bergman of Lubbock; nieces, Jean Moore of Commerce, Paula Henderson of Arizona; and nephew Max Rhodes of Arlington. Memorials may be given to the Klondike Cemetery Association, c/o Kay Robertson, 457 FR 2890, Klondike, TX 75448 or the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville, 2600 E. Main St. Gatesville, TX 76528. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeffrey Bates, Dr. James Hodges and the wonderful nursing and administrative staff at the Coryell Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and service.
