Services to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Friday, April 13, at 2:00 p.m. at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, Texas. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Betty was born in Abilene, Texas, on January 9, 1927 to Ula and Mary Ettie Franklin. Ula was a handyman and moved his family to Gatesville, where Betty graduated from high school. She was employed there by Southwestern Bell Telephone, and lived and worked on Fort Hood and in Killeen until coming to Temple in 1945. She acted many roles with Temple Civic Theater where she met Charles G. Taylor. They were married on December 27, 1969, and she subsequently retired from Southwestern Bell in 1970. Betty attended Temple Junior College and, later, the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, where she received two Bachelor’s degrees. There followed many civic activities including membership in the DAR, where she served as an officer for several years. In addition, Betty volunteered regularly at the Veteran’s Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 43 years and two of her sisters, Frankie Anderson and Winnie Fratone. Her two stepchildren, Keith Taylor and Rebecca Taylor Amstutz, and four grandchildren also survive her. Her parents and one sister, Dorothy Ayers preceded Betty in death. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
