Joe McCoy, 69, of Gatesville passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 in a Temple hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Scott’s Funeral Home with burial following at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors an hour prior to the service. Joe was born on July 27, 1942 to Frank and Alcenia Walsh McCoy in Jonesboro, Texas. Joe was raised and went to school in Gatesville. He served in the National Guard in Fort Ord, California and Fort Polk in Louisiana from 1960 to 1964. Joe spent many years operating heavy equipment and worked for Texas A&M University teaching Heavy Equipment. The last 20 years he owned and operated three antique stores. Joe loved team roping and horses, visiting with his friends and riding the back roads. Joe loved his family more than anything. He married Sherry Garrison on April 27, 1979. He was preceded in death by his father. Joe is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherry McCoy; sons, Eddie McCoy and wife Irene, Joe Dudley McCoy and fiancé Erin; mother, Alcenia McCoy; brothers, Jack McCoy and wife Judy, Bill McCoy and wife Susan; sister, Deborah Reser and husband Regan; 3 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews and mother-in-law, Helen Garrison all of whom he loved dearly.
