Mrs. Bobbie Smith age 99 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Barron officiating. Private burial will be at the Smith Cemetery in Purmela. Mrs. Smith was born on July 31, 1912 in the White Hall community of Coryell County. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Rosa Vernon Leonard. She grew up in Coryell County and went on to further her education at Baylor University, where she received her Bachelor and Masters Degree in Education. Her teaching career spanned forty years in public education. She taught in Coryell City, Pearl, Texas Youth Council and Killeen, until her retirement in 1974. She married Walter Smith on August 8, 1968 and he preceded her in death this year on March 19th. She was an active member of several Veterans Service Auxiliary groups, including the V.F.W., American Legion and D.A.V. She was a member of the White Hall Baptist Church, where she and her husband were active members for many years. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Leonard; sisters, Melba Clearman, Rosa Lee Evans, Edith Dunne and Viola Sadler. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
