Betty Jean Hampton

Betty Jean Wykle Hampton, age 70, of Gatesville, formerly of Franklin, NC, passed away, May 5, 2012 in Gatesville, after a brave battle with cancer. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Franklin, NC. Ms. Hampton was born June 19, 1941 in the Great Smokey Mountains of Macon County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Oscar D. Wykle and Vissie Gibson Wykle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Brenda, Glenda and Linda Sue Wykle; three brothers, Johnny, Jackie and Early Wykle and her husband, Frank Hampton. Ms. Hampton worked many years as a homemaker, cook, waitress and prior to her retirement she worked as a CNA in nursing home facilities both in Franklin, NC and in Arroyo Grande, CA. In her free time she loved painting and reading. She is survived by one son, Talmadge Lyle Coggins and wife, Patricia of Gatesville; one daughter, Johnna Jean Taylor and husband, Jimmy of Franklin, NC; sister, Fannie Mae Mcgaha of Franklin, NC; brother, Noah Oscar Wykle and wife, Linda of Felton, PA; three grandchildren, Ryan Chance Coggins of Gatesville, Chelsi Jean Coggins of Franklin, NC and Travis Chad Coggins of Cliffside, NC; two great grandsons, Austin and Dylan of Cliffside, NC and many special cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. Memorials may be made to the Relay for Life Gatesville Chapter.
