Wayne Harold Pruitt, age 86, of Jonesboro, Texas, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at a local nursing center, with his loving family by his side. Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, June 18, 2012 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Weaver Chapel Cemetery. Wayne was born July 29, 1925 in the Jonesboro community. He was the son of the late Robert Andrew Pruitt and Maggie Turner Pruitt. Wayne graduated from Turnersville High School in 1942. Wayne served his Country during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He served in Italy during the Northern Apennines Campaign in 1944 and the Po Valley Campaign in 1945. He was a member of the 91st Division 363rd Regiment, B Company aboard ships going to Japan. When the war ended he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star. After Wayne’s discharge from the army, he returned to the family farm and married his wife Marie on October 23, 1947. He farmed and ranched until he was forced to retire due to declining health. He loved life on the farm. Wayne’s favorite pleasures were taking care of his cattle and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne served on various agricultural committees and worked part-time at the ASC office for a period of time. He served on the Jonesboro School Board for a number of years. Wayne was an active member of the Jonesboro Methodist Church for many years. He later transferred to The First Methodist Church of Gatesville, where he is currently a member. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, R. A. Pruitt and one brother-in-law, B. E. Latham, Jr. Survivors include his wife, of 64 years, Marie; two sons, Kyle Pruitt and wife Joyce of Gatesville and Kenneth Pruitt and wife Sandra of New Braunfels; four granddaughters, Stacy Pruitt, Lisa Bankhead and husband Keith of Gatesville, Tracy Greenwell and husband Brian of New Braunfels, Karen Fuchs and husband Scott of San Angelo; and one grandson, Kevin Pruitt and wife Rachel of New Braunfels; eleven great-grandchildren and one sister, Florene Latham of DeSoto, Texas. Pallbearers will be Paul Humes, Jack Jones, Ronnie Pruitt, Larry Pruitt, John Young, Douglas Young, Jeff Latham and Jimmy Dale Gartman.
