Mary A. Pool, 97, of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Derral McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Mary Pool was born on March 16, 1915 in the Pearl Community of Coryell County to the late Ivy and Amanda Edmondson. She attended school and graduated from Pearl High School. She married Robert Lee Pool on July 3, 1932 and they moved to Bailey County living in a dug out. They purchased a section of land during the Depression and farmed, ranched, sold eggs and milk to make ends meet. After harvesting the first crop, Coryell County called them home and they moved back to Pearl on a farm and her husband worked for the county until the War. In 1943 her husband was drafted into the Army Air Corp which moved them to Wichita Falls, Illinois and to Reno, Nevada where he was stationed. After the war in 1946, they moved to Arnett and bought a farm. He also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad during his early days of farming. Mary farmed and ranched until 1979 even after her husband’s unexpected death in 1957. Many people remember her working at the Gatesville Laundromat. She moved into Gatesville in 1979 and enjoyed retirement. She spent many hours volunteering at the Gatesville Care Center and her church, Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Lee Pool; daughter, Dorothy Jean Pool and a brother. Mary is survived by her children, Jerry Pool and wife, Louise of Jonesboro, Annette Cole and husband, Bill of Gatesville; grandchildren, Shelia Jorgenson, Kay Anderson, Matthew Cole, Eric Cole and wife, Mariajose, Stephen Cole and wife, Meredith; great grandchildren, Brant Mills and wife Patricia, Karen Scott and husband, Paul, Sophia Grace Cole and another expected in December; great-great grandchildren, Cameron Mills and Madisyn Ramsey; a sister, Ruth Searcy; and 2 nephews. Memorials may be made to the Gatesville Care Center, 105 North 7th Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
