Helen Hill

Helen Hill, age 86, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 PM Friday at the funeral home. Helen was born August 8, 1925 in Leon Junction, Texas. She was the daughter of Odis Penny and Velma Whitenburg Penny. Helen graduated from Flat High School as Valedictorian. She attended school at Texas State College for Women which is now TWU where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She also received her Master’s Degree from Baylor University. During her 29 years of teaching, Helen taught school at Turnersville, Pottsville, Gatesville State School for Boys, Copperas Cove, Evant and Killeen. While teaching in Turnersville she met Frank Hill who she married on August 18, 1951. Helen was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Garden Club, Retired Teachers Association and she was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother Perry Lewis Penny. Survivors include daughter, Karen Carr and husband Max; son, Robert Hill and wife Mary Lou; sister, Margarette Blanton and husband Royce; brothers, Richard Penny and wife Ruth and Carroll Odis Penny and wife Shirley. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Eastern Star or Eastwood Baptist Church.
