Billy Hugh Veazey, Sr.

Billy Hugh Veazey, Sr., age 81 of Gatesville, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012 at a local nursing facility. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Jimmie Ferguson and Charles Graham officiating. Interment will follow at the Pidcoke Cemetery. The family will receive visitors anytime at the Veazey’s home at 105 Robert H. Evetts Drive in Gatesville. Billy was born on June 6, 1931 in Coryell County to the late William Hugh and Vivian Blanchard Veazey. He grew up and attended school in Gatesville. He married Margaret Ruth Evetts on December 1, 1951. Billy retired from the Texas Army National Guard as Chief Warrant Officer after 36 years of service and was a civil service employee, working at M.A.T.E.S. for 35 years retiring in 1986. He was also a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Ft. Gates Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Ruth Veazey on March 27, 2012 and a granddaughter, Neely Rainwater. Billy Hugh is survived by his daughters, Margo Ferguson and husband Jimmie of Gatesville; Torrie Rainwater and husband Mark of Lampasas; sons, Huey Veazey of Gatesville and Justin Veazey and wife Amy of Gatesville; brother, Kermit Lee Veazey and wife Ann; nephews, Mark Evetts and Rob Evetts; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
