Betty Joyce Smith Betty Smith, 73, of Gatesville passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2007. Homegoing Services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 14, 2007 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Betty was born on September 23, 1934 in Gatesville to the late James and Emily Davis Fowler as the youngest of seven. She accepted Christ at an early age in Taylor, Texas and became a member of the Church of God in Christ. Betty graduated from Gatesville High School and attended Walker Beauty School in Dallas. She was a beautician for over 50 years. She moved to California in 1963 and lived in the Los Angles area for 27 years before returning to Gatesville in 1990. Betty was preceded in death by her dedicated husband, Joseph (Smitty) Smith; 3 brothers, James A. Fowler, Henry B. Fowler, Edwin Fowler; 3 sisters, Georgia James, Elizabeth Smith and Thelma Potts. She is survived by her daughter, Norma Elizabeth Burton of Houston; grandchildren, Darion Roberts (whom she raised as a son) of Gatesville, Nichelle, Letty and Crystal all of Houston; two great grandchildren; sisters, Norma L. Hutchison of Taylor and Jeannie Fowler of Houston and a host of nieces, nephews and family.
