Ama Greene Bell Ama Bell passed away peacefully in a Gatesville nursing home on December 17, 2007. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 21, 2007 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bell was born on February 24, 1923, in Deep Gap, North Carolina to Heggie E. Greene and Maude Wellborn Green. She attended Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, North Carolina, and graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor College in 1959. She taught in Gatesville Elementary School for 30 years. Mrs. Bell was an active member of First Baptist Church, Gatesville. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, The Morris Federation, and Coryell Retired Teachers Association. She also had been active in the Order of Eastern Star, serving a term as Worthy Matron. During World War II, she worked for a defense contractor in Washington, D.C., where she met Morris Bell of Copperas Cove, Texas, and they were married on January 28, 1946. The couple lived in Houston until moving to Gatesville in 1951. Ama was preceded in death by her husband earlier this year; parents; brothers, Paul Greene, Cyrus Greene; and two sisters, Jenna Pratt and Juanita Wellmon. She is survived by sons, Walter Bell of Gatesville, Wendell Bell and wife, Lynn, of Austin; grandchildren Rebecca Bell, Andrew Bell and wife, Whitney, of Austin; brother, Dwight Greene of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Lucy Luther of Boone, NC, Minna Hall of Laurinburg, NC, Mary Fox of Williamsburg, VA, Peggy Leviner of Morganton, NC, and Kate Greer of Wilkesboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gatesville, 912 E. Main Street, or a charity of your choice.
