Greg Woodson, age 54 of Gatesville, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Deral McWhorter officiating. Private family committal services will follow at Restland Cemetery. There is no set time for visitation at the funeral home, the family will receive visitors at their home at 1400 Woodville Drive in Gatesville. Greg was born on May 17, 1958 in Ft. Worth. He grew up and went to school in Gatesville. He married Kay Massingill on May 2, 1981. He worked for T.D.C.J. in the Gatesville area as a Maintenance Supervisor for 32 years, retiring in 2011. He loved working in the community with kids and coached Little League Baseball for fifteen years. He and his son enjoyed paintball and he was fiercely competitive in it, earning the name “Old School” with the people they played with, which were mostly soldiers in the area that became friends. He was a member of Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. Greg was a great husband, father and friend, but most did not know that he was also an inspiration to the offenders he worked with. He often had calls or communication from them, telling him what impact he and his character had on their life. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kay Woodson; son, Luke Woodson of Gatesville; parents, Cecil and Bernice Woodson of Gatesville; sister, Regina Johnson of Louisiana; brother, Butch Woodson and wife, Debra of Gatesville; a special niece that was like a daughter, Shelly Haferkamp and husband Chuck of Gatesville; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Wanda Massingill of Gatesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
