Mary Ruth Thompson

Mary Ruth Thompson, age 84 of Gatesville, died Friday, December 7, 2012 at a Waco hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Covey officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-7:00 PM Monday, December 10, 2012 at the funeral home. Ruth was born on June 11, 1928 in Sagerton, Texas to the late Lee Roy Blackwell, Sr. and Mamie Webb Holton Blackwell. She attended schools in Jonesboro and lived in Jonesboro and Gatesville most all of her life. She married Jimmie Thompson on April 26, 1955 and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1997. Ruth was a nurse’s aide at many of the local nursing homes and at Coryell Memorial Hospital. She loved quilting, collecting dolls and was the inspirational leader of her family. Ruth lived life to the fullest and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter, Pat Delaune. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ann Durfee of Gatesville, Debbie Rhudy and husband Tim of China Spring and Ladonna Thompson and companion Shane Pederson of Gatesville; step-daughter, Martha Marie Russell of Tennessee; sons, Sonny Garman and wife Melissa of Gatesville, Dennis Thompson and wife Celia of San Antonio and Keith Thompson and wife Beth of Gatesville; step-son, Chris Thompson and wife Shannon of Gatesville; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorials may be made in Ruth’s name to the New Beginnings Worship Center, 1012 Main Street, Gatesville, Texas 76528.
