Don Kennedy age 86 of Evant, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville, with Rev. Robert Lingle officiating. The family will have a time of visitation after the service at the funeral home, burial will then follow at the Murphree Cemetery in Evant. Mr. Kennedy was born on April 14, 1926 in Miles, Texas to the late Earl Matthew and Ethel Irene Stinnett Kennedy. He graduated from Miles High School, before entering the US Navy during WWII. He was honorably discharged on June 7, 1946 after his older brother, Wendell, was killed in action by sniper fire in the Philippines. The family moved to Evant in 1949. He married Tommie Lea Harvey on March 12, 1951. He worked as a plumber and some other odd jobs, before working at Griffin Wool & Mohair in Evant. He later bought the business, renaming it Kennedy Wool & Mohair and in later years became, Kennedy Feed Store. He retired from the feed store in 1989, but shared ownership in Cowboys & Indians Western Store with his daughter, Donna, from 1989 until 2001. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years in 2009, one brother and one sister. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Berry and husband Jeff of Evant; one granddaughter, Kennedy Berry of Evant; a cousin, Faye Lingle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the individual’s favorite charity.
