Steve Samuel Acree, age 65 of Gatesville, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at his residence. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, February 8, 2013 at Coryell Community Church, 115 N. Levita Road in Gatesville with Rev. Terry Hill officiating. Interment of cremains will follow at 1:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Mr. Acree was born on June 18, 1947 in Anchorage, Alaska to the late James Burand Acree and Elizabeth Martini Acree. He moved to Virginia when he was three years old and attended schools in Virginia and Tennessee. Steve joined the Army at the age of 16 and was honorably discharged after 10 years of service. He attended college at Texas A&M where he received his degree. He worked at the Temple Daily Telegram while he was in school. Steve taught Graphic Arts at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Gatesville, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed ranching in his later years. Steve attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He married Paulette Pond in August of 2009. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Paulette Acree; sons, Clark Acree and wife Christi and Chris Acree and wife Bridgette; daughters, Carole Henderson and husband Chris and Connie Greer and husband Kevin; a sister, Jean Miller; brothers, Larry A. Stamberger, Matt Acree and Kent Acree; step-children, Kurt Pittman and wife Cristie and Paula Kile and husband Stacy; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorials may be given in Steve’s name to the American Cancer Society.
