Clara Parrish Bomar, age 95 of Mound, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013, in Gatesville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Parrish officiating. Burial will follow at the Mound Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Clara was one of fifteen children of the late Robert L. Parrish, Sr. and Lillie McHargue Parrish. She was born on October 12, 1917 in the Liberty Ohio community in Hamilton County. She grew up there and was an athlete in school, playing basketball. She graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1934 of Liberty Ohio High School. She attended Draughn Business School in Lubbock. During WWII, she was a bookkeeper for National Gypsum Co. in McGregor and then worked as a civil service employee in the payroll department at Ft. Hood. She married James Bruce Bomar, Sr. on December 20, 1945. They made their home and raised their family in the Mound community where they farmed together. They also owned and operated the Mound Store for many years, and she assisted Bruce at the Mound Post Office. They were truly a part of “The Greatest Generation.” Clara was a master cook and seamstress. She was a member of the White Mound Baptist Church since 1945, sang in the Baylor Senior Choir in the 1980’s, and volunteered at Coryell Memorial Hospital for many years. She was preceded in death by her son, James Bruce Bomar, Jr., on February 28, 1997; her husband, James Bruce Bomar, Sr., on November 12, 1998; eight brothers and four sisters. She is survived by three daughters: Janice Douglas and husband Chuck of Belton, Karyl Schiller and husband Leroy of Zabcikville, Helen Bomar of Belton; two sisters, Josephine Weeks of Purmela, Vada Robinson of Hamilton; sister-in-law, Joyce Parrish of Hamilton; eight grandchildren: Curt Bomar, Casey Bomar and wife Penny, Jeffri King and husband John, Kevin Schiller and wife Lindsey, Kent Schiller and wife Monica, Kory Douglas and wife Lauren, Kelly Arnold and husband Dennis, and Jillian Douglas; and twelve great grandchildren.
