Johnnie Rufus Easley, age, 80, of Gatesville passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Keith Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00PM, Friday, March 29, 2013 at the funeral home. Johnnie was born on August 16, 1932 in the Ruth community of Coryell County, Texas to the late Willie and Mamie Holt Easley. He grew up in the Ruth community, until Ft. Hood moved them to Gatesville in 1942. He graduated from University of Texas with a Master’s degree. Johnnie served in the U.S. Army. After he was discharged from the Army, he returned home to take care of his mother. He worked for the Texas Youth Commission as an accountant, retiring with over 25 years of service. He was very patriotic; he loved his country and was a true servant to others. Johnnie volunteered faithfully at the Care Center and visited residents in the nursing home. He loved his family; although he did not have any children of his own, he treated his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews as his own children. Johnnie was a member of West Main Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Billie Roy and Troy “Dab” Granville; and nephew, Tommy Easley. Johnnie is survived by his nieces, Cindy Humes, Amanda Tatum, and Robin Easley; and nephews, Ricky Easley and Randy Easley. Memorials may be made to West Main Church of Christ, P.O.
