Edith Blanchard, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 88 on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in Temple, Texas. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Friday, April 5, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kurt Fuessel officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 6:30PM, Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the funeral home. Edith was born on February 19, 1925 in Coryell County, Texas to the late J.W “Watt” Palmer and Jewel Beasley Palmer. Her mother passed away when she was seven months old. Edith was raised by her father and new mother, Undine Faucett Palmer. She grew up in the Owl Creek and Eagle Springs communities of Coryell County. She spent many hours in the cotton fields hoeing and picking cotton with her father and sisters. Her family moved to the Ewing community in the late 1930’s. On May 9, 1942, Edith married William Jackson “Bill Jack” Blanchard. They spent all of their married life at Straw’s Mill and South Mountain. She was an active member of Mountain Baptist Church and served as Sunday school secretary for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson “Bill Jack” Blanchard; parents; and sister, Vinnie Murl Blanchard. Edith is survived by her children, Peggy Timmons and husband, Vern, Billy Blanchard, and Jackie Blanchard, all of Gatesville; sisters, Kathleen Blanchard of Gatesville, Joyce White and husband, Charles of Tulia, and Jo Marie Pope and husband, Tommy of Gatesville; brother-in-law, Don Blanchard and wife, Alice Ann of Gatesville; five grandchildren, Darin Timmons, Kristi Street, Shane Blanchard, Melissa Washburn, and Shelli Blanchard; six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Emily, Chailey, Jaiden, Colten, and Caleb. Pallbearers will be deacons of the Mountain Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Edith’s nephews. A very special thanks is given from this family to all personnel at Hillside Nursing and Rehabilitation for the loving care they gave Edith while she was in their care.
