Henrietta Cathey Nichols

Henrietta Cathey Nichols, age 89, of Gatesville passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Meadows Nursing Home in Gatesville. Visitation will be at 1:00PM, Monday, April 29, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00PM. Burial will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. Henrietta was born on December 4, 1923 in Coryell County, Texas to the late Henry and Bessie Cathey and was the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Turnersville and graduated from Turnersville High School in 1941. She married James (Tige) Nichols in 1941. Henrietta stayed at home and raised her children until the early 1970’s. She then worked at the Rotunda, T.Y.C. and T.D.C., where she made many dear friends. Henrietta had a heart of gold and would go to any lengths to help her family and friends. She loved cooking for her family and friends and you would never find a better Sunday dinner anywhere with home grown vegetables, fried chicken, and homemade rolls. Her other passions were sewing, quilting, gardening, and playing 42 with her buddies. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tige Nichols; sisters, Ora Coward, Ann Cathey, Kathleen Turner; brothers, Lloyd Cathey, Rob Cathey, Albert Cathey; son-in-laws, Gene Shelton and Leonard Humphries; grandson-in-law, Bobby Brown. Henrietta is survived by her son, Flanagan Nichols and wife, Stella of Mound; daughters, Jan Shelton of Gatesville and Patsy Humphries of Valley Mills; grandchildren, Sherry Conner and husband, Jeff of Rowlett, Brad Shelton and wife, Venus of Belton, Lauri Brown of Hewitt, Valerie Dees of Gatesville, Dallas Dees of Houston, and Edwin Nichols of Gatesville; great-grandchildren, Marina Conner, Katie Brown, Krystal Graham, Alyanna Hornsey, and Gracie Miller.
