Robert (Bob) Mathews

Robert (Bob) Mathews, age 89, of Gatesville passed away Monday, June 10, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Willie Clarke officiating. Burial will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. There is no set time for visitation. Bob was born on September 17, 1923 to the late Charlie and Lula Roberson Mathews. He grew up and attended school in Turnersville. Bob married Louise Spradley in 1946. He served in the US Army during WW II in the European Theater. He was a former member of the Gatesville Jaycee’s and Gatesville Volunteer Fire Dept. Bob worked for 30 years at Hercules in McGregor and the Gatesville Housing Authority. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters. Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise Mathews; sons, Robert (Rusty) Mathews and wife, Linda, Mike Mathews and wife, Eva and Ricky Mathews; daughter, Sandra Shepherd-Cain; grandchildren, Jimmy Shepherd, David Shepherd, Kristi Hyde, and Charlotte Mathews; and 10 great-grandchildren.
