J. W. Rainer

J. W. Rainer, age 86, of Gatesville passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013. Funeral services will be 2:00p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2013 at King Baptist Church. Burial will be 4:00p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00p.m., Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home. J. W. was born on September 21, 1926 in Gatesville, Texas to the late Young Wood and Dora Alma Wittie Rainer. He grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School. J.W. married Marge Rie Tatum in 1952 and she passed away June 1988. He married Wanda Netherland in 1990 and she passed away in 2002. He was a maintenance supervisor at Fort Hood for the Civil Service. J. W. loved gospel and bluegrass music and attended Pearl Bluegrass Festival as long as his health allowed. He and Wanda belonged to the Cross Timbers Opry in Stephenville and traveled with the club. He was a member of King Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; brother, A. D. Rainer; and sister, Cleo Collette Rainer. J. W. is survived by his son, Mack Rainer of the Grove; daughter, Rena Smith of Gatesville; adopted son, Lee Campbell of Slater; adopted daughter, Renee Campbell; sister, Ila Mae Hamilton of McGregor; brother, Tom Rainer of Gatesville; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
