Jo Marie Matheny

Jo Marie Matheny, age 86 of The Grove, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the funeral home. Jo Marie Matheny was born on August 18, 1926 at The Grove to the late George Clawson and LaDean Taylor Clawson. She attended school at The Grove. Jo worked at Owens Illinois in Waco and retired after 19 years of service. She lived a short time in London and returned to Temple and The Grove where she lived most of her life. On September 18, 1980, she married Leonard Riddle. Jo was a quality control inspector for Mobil Chemical in Temple where she worked for 17 years. Jo was very active in her community and hosted frequent potluck dinners for her neighbors and friends and often entertained with musical events. She operated the Clawson County Store at The Grove for many years. Jo was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Polly Bolton Clawson; and two sisters, Billie Kathryn Clawson Reeves and Imogene Clawson Dorethy. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Leonard Riddle of The Grove; a son, Wayne Bell and wife Vivian of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Gary Bell and Stephen Bell, both of San Antonio; and two great grandchildren, Hudson and Payton. Memorials may be given in Jo’s name to the charity of choice.
