Jim Williams, age 62, of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Memorial services will be 2:00p.m., Friday, August 2, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will follow. James was born on Christmas Eve, 1950, in Melvin, Texas. From 1950 to 1958, he lived with his parents, Kathleen Watkins Williams and James Cawthon Williams in Gaines County. In 1958, they moved to Coryell County where they lived until 1964. In 1964, Jim and his mother sold their ranch and moved to Gatesville. Jim graduated from Gatesville High School as an honor student in 1969 and then attended U. T. in Austin. In 1972, Jim moved to Arlington and opened Wilt’s Billiards, becoming one of the pioneers of the upscale pool room business. In 1982, Jim moved back to Gatesville. In recent years, Jim owned and operated two other pool rooms in the Gatesville area. In between pool rooms, he worked at times in the field of journalism. Jim enjoyed several serious hobbies including driving and working on high performance cars, photography, and restoring antique pool tables. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cawthon and Kathleen Williams. James is survived by his cousins, Carol Ann Williams of Amarillo, Walter Adams of San Antonio, Clara Adams Chumney and husband, Tom, also of San Antonio, Jesse Carpenter and wife, Cindy of Fort Worth, Texas; his best friend, Steve Phillips and wife, Irene of Duncanville and their son, Jonathan Phillips, Jim’s godson.
