Ethel Loraine Barton

Ethel Barton, age 96, of Gatesville passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at a local nursing facility. Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Steve Bogan officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 6:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Ethel was born July 28, 1917 in Santa Anna, Texas. She was the daughter of the late J. C. and Elizabeth Hirsch Turner. She moved to Coryell County as a child and was raised and attended school in the Plainview Community. Ethel married Jack Barton on June 30, 1934 in Gatesville. She and her husband made their home in this area for many years. Ethel was employed by the Texas Youth Council which later became the Texas Department of Corrections as a security officer. She retired on February 1, 1987 after 24 years of service. Ethel was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Gatesville. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 27, 1983 and a son, Billy Jack Barton on January 1, 1947. She is survived by a son, Jerry Barton and wife Patsy; three grandchildren, Jim Barton, Janet Ortega and Jackie Pate; six great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
