Eddie Joe Benson

Eddie Joe Benson, age 58, of Gatesville passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013. Memorial services will be 6:00p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at McKamie Stadium with full military honors. Eddie was born on April 1, 1955 in Ysleta, Texas to Darrell and Juanita Graves Benson. He played football, baseball, and ran track in high school, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1973. He married Debbie Sims on May 4, 1974. He entered the U.S. Army, graduating from the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, and retiring after 24 years as a First Sergeant. After his military career, he started working for the U.S. Postal Service in Temple. He loved fishing and fished with the Brotherhood of Anglers. Eddie loved the Wildflower Country Club and the members of the community. He will always be remembered for his undying love of his bride of close to 40 years, Debbie, his “light of his life”, daughter, Elaina (Moosehead), as well as, his G.H.S. school spirit, and his love of Notre Dame Football, Texas A & M Aggies and George Dickel Whiskey. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Benson; and father-in-law, Harvey Sims. Eddie is survived by his wife, Debbie Benson; father, Darrell Benson; daughter, Elaina Jo Benson (Moosehead); brother, Johnny Benson and wife, Vickie; mother-in-law, Margie Sims; nephew, Coy Benson and his children, Tannon and Layken Benson; and nieces, Laci Riley and husband, Anthony and their children, Gavin and Dylan Hartman, Mindy Ingraham and husband, Kory and their children, Kyla (Catus) Hinojosa and Maggie and Mollie Ingraham, Saiya McHugh and husband, Sean.
