Ilene Fay Hairston

Ilene Fay Hairston, age 85 of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Graveside services will be 1:00p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Sweetwater City Cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00p.m., Friday, October 11, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Ilene was born on October 18, 1927 in Plains, Texas to the late W. L. and Ida Rushing Turner. She attended Hermleigh High School in Sweetwater, Texas, graduating in 1945. Ilene went to cosmetology school in early 1947, and then married LeeRoy Hairston on March 4, 1947 in Sweetwater. They moved to Gatesville in 1952. She owned and operated Ilene’s Beauty Shop for 56 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1952. Ilene was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was loved by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeeRoy in 2003; and brothers, Jay Turner, Clyde “Bulldog” Turner and Virgil Turner. Ilene is survived by her daughters, Ginny Shoaf and husband, John, Debra Bonfanti, and Trudi Tilly; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
