Archie Wright, age 104, of Gatesville passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., Monday, October 14, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the funeral home. Archie was born on the hills of Cowhouse Creek on October 8, 1909 to the late George and Elizabeth Graham Wright. He went to school at Salem and rode a horse, rode in a two-wheel cart, or walked two miles to school. He married Etta Mae Hendrix on February 20, 1930 in Copperas Cove in a buggy. Archie and Etta Mae were farmers and ranchers, and grew corn and cotton to feed their cows, horses, and hogs. In 1941, the government took their land to build Fort Hood, and Archie and Etta Mae moved to a few other places before settling four miles north of Pidcoke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta Mae in 1995; one daughter, Maxine Hale; two brothers; four sisters; and one granddaughter, Patricia Hale. Archie is survived by his daughters, Pat Jetton Hall and husband, Jack, Barbara Darr and husband, Gary, both of Granbury, Elise’ Wright of Irving, and Linda Wright of Gatesville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
