James William Baker, age 92, of Gatesville passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013. Graveside services will be 1:00p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Hemmeline Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Scott’s Funeral Home. James was born on March 19, 1921 in Crawford, Texas to Henry and Bertha Plemons Baker. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1969. He was a Life Member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wives, Ida Mae Baker and Dorothy Elliott Baker; daughter, Wilma Crockett; son-in-law, Kenneth Crockett; granddaughter, Cheryl Lee; grandson, Ronald Crockett; three brothers; and one sister. James is survived by daughters, Sandra Lee and Carolyn Sibley and husband, Fletcher, all of Gatesville; step-daughters, Patsy Sanders of Franklin, Kay Batten and husband, Raymond of Nacogdoches, and Judy Clark and husband, Charlie of College Station; sisters, Florence Queen of Amarillo and Norma Jean Keith of Brooksville, FL; brother, Melvin Baker of Marlin; grandsons, William Lee and wife, Teresa of Gatesville, James Biggs and wife, Cynthia of Cheyenne, WY, and Jeffrey Crockett and wife, Cyndi of Shreveport, LA; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.
