C. E. Shirey, Jr. of Waco, formerly of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Masonic Cemetery in Gatesville. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral at Scott’s Funeral Home. C. E. was born on September 6, 1928 in Turnersville, Texas to the late C. E., Sr. and Freda Coskrey Shirey. He grew up in Jonesboro, graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1948. He was widely known as a talented cowboy artist. C. E. enjoyed participating in rodeos from the time he was 14 in the Rodeo Cowboys Association which became the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and later in life with the Old Timers Rodeo Association. He also was a house painter for many years in Gatesville. He resided in Coryell County all his life, moving to Waco with his son, Joe, in March of this year. He was a member and Past Master of Maples Masonic Lodge, #791 A. F. & A. M. in Flat. He is survived by his daughters, Norma Sonier and husband, Art of Carrollton and Annette Torres and husband, Paul, Jr. of Waco; sons, Jimmy Shirey and Joe Shirey, both of Waco; sisters, Kay Johnson of Arlington, Hallie Pearl Worrell of Fort Worth, and Claudine Rowe and husband, Frank of Missouri; brother, Charlie Shirey and wife, Yvonne of Arizona; and five grandchildren, Zoe, Micaela, and Brandon Sonier and Aaron and Andrew Torres.
