Ida Lee Rogers, age 90, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gene Gurley officiating. Burial will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2013 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Ida Lee was born on June 4, 1923 in The Grove Community of Coryell County, Texas to the late James Ernest and Ruby Pearl Odom Grissom. She attended school in Flat, graduating from Flat High School in 1940. Ida Lee worked at A&P Grocery in Gatesville, being hired by her future husband. Upon his return from his service in the Army during WWII, George Weldon Rogers and Ida Lee were married on April 7, 1946 at the First United Methodist Church in Gatesville. Weldon was transferred by A&P to Temple where they began married life. They then moved to Dallas in 1958 where Weldon continued with A&P and Ida Lee later worked for Sears. In 1985, they returned for to Gatesville for retirement. Ida Lee enjoyed doing church work, especially Methodist Women meetings and preparing meals in the church kitchen. She was very active in the community volunteering at many places including Coryell Memorial Hospital, Coryell Museum Board, and Gatesville Care Center. Ida Lee loved the times she spent with her quilting club and the many hours making pound cakes and chocolate chip cookies for friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon Rogers in June 1995; and her parents, James and Pearl Grissom. Ida Lee is survived by her sons, James Rogers and wife, Emilie (their daughters Aimee Gorostiza and Celeste Karau); and David Rogers and wife, Laura (their daughters Jennifer Essary and Tricia Rogers); and her sister, Ethel Joe Harris; and four great-grandchildren.
