SSG, Charles E. (Chuck) Houston, USA, Ret., age 78, of Gatesville passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors and masonic rites. Interment will be at the Gatesville Masonic Cemetery. There is no set time for visitation. Chuck was born on May 19, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Charles E. and Viola Hopwood Houston. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army where he met his wife, Edith A. Winter. They were married on November 10, 1961 in Germany. He retired from the Army in 1978 after 24 years of service including two tours in Vietnam. They moved to Gatesville in 1983 where he worked for T. D. C. J., retiring in 1995 after 15 years of service. Chuck had a great love for country music and he enjoyed singing and playing at jamborees throughout the West. He also was known for creating one-of-a-kind leatherworks. Chuck was a member and Past Master of Gatesville Masonic Lodge #197 A. F. & A. M. He was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Viola Houston; sister, Jacqueline Brown; brother, Edmond Houston; and nephew, Bruce Brown. Chuck is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edith Houston; daughters, Viola H. Thompson and husband, Dale of Hernando, Mississippi and Jackie C. Rahn and husband, Greg of Boling Brook, Illinois; son, Charles F. Houston of Waco; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
