Melvin Maxwell, age 90, of Oglesby passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby. Melvin was born on April 16, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas to Reta N. and Evvie Allen Maxwell. When he was a young boy, his family moved to Central Texas. He served in the U. S. Army for a brief time in the 1940’s. After a medical discharge, he worked at the Blue Bonnet Ordinance Plant. During his remaining years, he worked in McGregor at the stove plant, in Dallas at Verson, and later retired from Coryell County after working there for 15 years. He was baptized at Pecan Grove Baptist Church in 1972. In his final years, he enjoyed gardening and telling stories. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Pitts; two brothers, Jack and Sven; and one sister, Jean. Melvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Maxwell; daughter, Jann Browning and husband, Steve; son-in-law, John Pitts; grandchildren, Sarah Browning Lopez and husband, Gabe, Ryan Browning and wife, Holly, and Jane Pitts; and sister, Oleta Hamilton; as well as many special relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association; American Cancer Society; or to the charity of your choice.
