Rozell VanDyke, age 86, of Waco passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Gatesville City Cemetery. Visitation will be immediately following the service. Rozell was born on February 11, 1927 in Tahoka, Texas to the late Irving and Vessie Mensch. She grew up in Flat, Texas and graduated from Flat High School. She married J. C. VanDyke on May 2, 1946. Rozell enjoyed a 30 year nursing career in Gatesville, beginning with Coryell Memorial Hospital working with local physicians and retiring from Scott and White Clinic Gatesville. Her warm, caring nature and cheerful laughter made her well-suited to nursing. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, J. C. VanDyke; parents; and brother, Otha Mensch. Rozell is survived by her daughter, Patti Thrasher and husband, Michael; son, Tommy VanDyke and wife, Georgianne; grandsons, Aaron Thrasher and Jason VanDyke; great-grandson, Austin VanDyke; brother, Vennis Mensch and wife, Joyce; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given to our mother by Wesley Woods Healthcare Center and Providence Hospice.
