June Hackney Kuehl, age 85, of Waco passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Restland Cemetery. June was born in Gatesville, Texas on June 5, 1928 to the late Hugh and Stella Painter Hackney. June graduated from Gatesville High School where she played the clarinet in the band. She attended North Texas State in Denton, Texas and received her degree in education. She taught second grade for 30 years for the Waco Independent School District. Her students loved her and she was a wonderful teacher and role model. After retiring, June remained in the education system as a greeter at the Moody Library at Baylor University. Her friendly smile was a welcome invitation for so many students. June was such a beautiful person inside and out and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Reva Hardin and Marie Hackney. June is survived by her daughters, Deborah and Diane; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Nolte and Faye Schrupp; and many nieces and nephews.
