Leola Hodge, age 94, of Gatesville passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Gatesville, with Dr. Levi Price officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. Leola was born on December 22, 1919 in Geary, Oklahoma, a twin daughter of the late Henry E. and Gracie Wells Summers. She went to school in Jonesboro and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1939. She married John Lee Hodge, Sr. in March 1942. She went to nursing school and was a LVN at Coryell Memorial Hospital for 20 years and at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital for 11 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Morris Federation, an active member of the Coryell Memorial Auxiliary for many years, a volunteer at the Gatesville Care Center, a Cub Scout den mother, an 80+ year member of First Baptist Church in Gatesville where she was in the Joy Choir, a former nursery superintendent, a Sunday school outreach leader, and for several years, the chair of the benevolence committee. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Hodge, Sr. on June 13, 1986; eight sisters; and one brother. Leola is survived by her sons, John Lee Hodge, Jr. and wife, Paula of Grand Saline, Richard Hodge and wife, Patricia of Spicewood, and Bobby Hodge of Gatesville; three grandchildren, Jessica Jolliffe, Billy and David Hodge; and five great-grandchildren, Jean, Robin, Timothy, Thomas, and Bianca. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 912 E. Main, Gatesville, TX 76528.
