Walter Lee, age 91, of Waco and formerly of Gatesville, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2PM on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home with visitation an hour prior to the service on Sunday. Burial will follow at Levita Cemetery. Walter was born on November 16, 1922 in Moshiem, TX to late Albert and Laura Newland Lee. He attended school in Oakton and Gatesville before being drafted into the United States Navy. Walter served from 1943-1945 during WWII as part of the greatest generation. He served aboard the U.S.S. Bismark Sea, which was an aircraft carrier that was attacked by enemy fire and sunk while he was aboard during the invasion of Iwo Jima. After the war, he married Margaret Loree Walters in 1945. Walter worked for G.P. Schaub, drove a truck hauling limestone, worked for Deckboat, drove a gas truck for Jack Morse and worked for the State School for boys before retiring from working civil service at Ft. Hood. He later married Helen Woodard in 2007 and lived his last years in Waco. Walter is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years, Loree Lee; 4 sisters and a grandson, Kane Necessary. Walter is survived by his wife, Helen Lee; children, Billie Blanchard and husband Mike, Gary Lee and wife Terrie, Sherry Peveto and husband Stanley, Debbie Necessary and husband Cris; step-daughters, Karla Greger and husband Artie and Stacey McCormick; brothers, David Lee, Nelson Lee; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
