Clarence Bruton, age 88, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at a local hospital. Memorial services are scheduled for 10 AM Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Clarence was born March 30, 1925 in Flat, Texas. He was the son of Roy Bruton and Mamie Clawson Bruton. Clarence served in the Army during World War II as a member of the 22nd Infantry Brigade of the 4th Infantry division. He fought in five major European Campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. His awards included the Combat Infantry Badge, The European Ribbon, The Good Conduct Medal, The Purple Heart and Five Bronze Battle Stars. Clarence seperated from the military in July 1945 and eventually returned to Gatesville where he was self-employed as a contractor in every aspect of the construction trade. Everyone who knew Clarence always said the same thing about him, that he was “One of a Kind”. Clarence was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flat. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons; Reggie Clarence Bruton and Randall Eric Bruton, two brothers; Leroy Bruton and Gene Bruton. Clarence is survived by his wife; Jo Alice Bruton, sons; Gary Eugene Bruton and Jeffrey Neil Bruton, sister; Betty Bruton Haynes and husband Zonnell, eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
