Barney Tippit

L. B. (Barney) Tippit, Jr., age 90, of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matt Dossey officiating. Burial will follow at Flint Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the funeral home.Barney was born on April 15, 1923 in Leon Junction, Texas to the late L. B. Tippit, Sr. and Laura Whigham Tippit. He grew up in Flat and graduated from Flat High School in 1940. He married Euta Fay Ayres in July 24, 1943. Barney served in the U. S. Navy in WWII on LST 933. He farmed and ranched and owned and operated Barney’s Garage, where he was the local diesel mechanic and top notch welder. He was an avid domino player and a “regular” at the domino hall. He was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church and Johnny Watkins Sunday School Class.He was preceded in death by his wife, Euta Fay Tippit in 2007; son, Barry Tippit in 2013; grandsons, Christopher Tyrel Tippit and Heath Hill; and great-grandson, Christopher Heath Hill.Barney is survived by his son, Tom Tippit and wife, Gail of Gatesville; sister, Juanita Bruton of Killeen; brother, Feno Tippit and wife, Doris of Gatesville; grandchildren, Amy Moore, Cacy Minter and husband, Jerame, Hayly Goodman and husband, Shannon, Lindsey Tippit and partner, Megan Simoneau, and Chad Hill and wife, Katy; and great-grandchildren, Robbie Moore, Tobin Stubblefield, and Ashlyn Goodman.Memorials may be made to Flint Creek Cemetery Association, 22510 Owl Creek Rd., Gatesville, TX 76528.
