Ruby Medford, age 84, of Gatesville passed away Friday, March 21, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 24, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the funeral home.Ruby was born on December 11, 1929 in Evant, Texas to the late Emmett and Beatrice Wheeler Walker. She grew up and attended school in Evant, graduating from Evant High School in 1947. While attending school in Fort Worth, she met F. L. Medford and they married on January 31, 1950, moving to Gatesville in September of 1950. Ruby was a cafeteria worker for the Gatesville I. S. D. from 1963 to 1973. She then worked at the Gatesville State School for Boys for six years and retired from T. D. C. J. as a correctional officer in 1992. Ruby was a volunteer at the Coryell County Museum and a former member of the Gatesville Garden Club. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, F. L. Medford in 2004; and sister, Florence Lehmberg.Ruby is survived by her daughters, Karen Williams and husband, Johnny of Gatesville and Cara Poyndexter and husband, Ronnie of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; son, Cary Medford and wife, Donna of Gatesville; grandchildren, Darren Poyndexter of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Malinda Keeter of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Kristi Pesch of Gatesville, Natalie Williams of Gatesville, and Eric Medford of Copperas Cove; and five great-grandchildren.
