Philip Layne Crosthwaite

Philip Layne Crosthwaite, age 19, of Jonesboro, passed away Friday March 28, 2014 from the result of an accident. Services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2014, at Clifton High School Gymnasium in Clifton, Texas. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jonesboro. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville.Layne was born August 28, 1994 in Clifton Texas to Bobbie Hill and Phillip C. Crosthwaite. He grew up in Clifton, but he spent countless hours in Jonesboro and various places with family and friends. In high school, Layne’s passion and dedication was football; however, a season-ending injury prevented him from playing his senior year. Although he was unable to play, Layne was with his teammates on the sideline every Friday night cheering them on every step of the way. On the football field, he was a fierce competitor and never backed down to any opponent --- no matter the size! Because of his outstanding performance on the football field, Layne was recognized in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine his junior year. Layne was a fighter – both on and off the field. When he wasn’t playing football, Layne’s other love was roping and riding horses. But most of all, Layne thrived on the pure adrenaline rush of any activity.Layne was probably best known for being a bit hard-headed and mischievous; but, those who knew Layne also knew a well-mannered, respectable, and kind-hearted young man who always offered a strong shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen for anyone who needed help or just needed to talk. Layne was recently baptized on February 9, 2014 at Evergreen Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Texas.Survivors include his mother, Bobbie Hill and Brent Belcher of Clifton; father, Phillip Crosthwaite and wife, Michella of Taylor; brother, Roper Clayton Crosthwaite; step-sisters, Logan Voorhies, Morgan Kidwell, and Maegan Kidwell; step-brother, Mitchell Voorhies; grandparents, Richard and Linda Hill, Gary and Sheri Davis, Angel & Ruby Crosthwaite, and John and Diane Ferguson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. An account for The Layne Crosthwaite Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up at First Security State Bank, P. O. Box 69, Clifton, TX 76634.
