Ruth Jones Giddens

Ruth Giddens, age 85, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Purmela. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014 at the funeral home. Ruth was born on August 14, 1928 in Coryell City, Texas to Bee Sparkman and Mary Comer Sparkman and grew up in Lampasas, Texas. While she was married to Bruce Jones, he was the superintendent at Turnersville where they lived and cared for many students in the Turnersville area. Ruth was a teacher’s aide at the State School for Boys and the Gatesville Public Schools. After retiring, she worked for the Purmela Post Office and volunteered with the Red Cross in Gatesville. She loved to paint landscape paintings and was an active member of Purmela Baptist Church. She enjoyed her later years at the Welcome Room in Gatesville where she made many new friends. Ruth will be missed by her sisters, nieces, nephews and other members of the Giddens family.She was preceded in death by her parents; and husbands, James Bruce Jones and Chester Giddens.Ruth is survived by her sisters, Bernice Wright and Betty Bates; sisters-in-law, Eva Edwards, and Irene Jones; and many nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smith Cemetery, 11135 FM 116, Gatesville, TX 76528 or Purmela Baptist Church, P.O.
