Adel Martha Galanffy, “Grandma”, 89, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 5, 2014, at her home in Harker Heights, TX. Private Services were held with the family on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.Adel was born on February 20, 1925 in Debrecen, Hungary. She then came to the United States as a political refugee after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution was oppressed. Adel was a Graduate of the “Franz Liszt” Music Conservatory in Budapest, Hungary, where she met her late husband Louis Alexander Galanffy. She was an artist-teacher in the State Music Conservatory of Northern Hungary. She began her concert career in Hungary and it carried over to the United States. Adel and her late husband Louis performed over 150 duo-piano recitals in the United States, including a Carnegie Hall Debut In 1964. She retired from Central Texas College after teaching music for 25 years. She is listed in the “Hall of Fame”, Piano Guild, U.S.A., the “Who’s Who of American Women”, 5th ed. Chicago, IL, the “Dictionary of International Biography” London, England, “The International Who’s Who in Music” Cambridge, England, “Hungarians in America” New York, NY and the “Directory of Educational Specialists” Baltimore, MD. There are not enough words to describe Adel, a woman of honor, grace, style and talent. She had a way about her unlike any other and she would draw people from near and far just to sit and enjoy a conversation with her. Adel loved and cherished her family and she always made sure to tell them. She is one that can never be replaced and will surely be missed by everyone. Thank you Grandma, for your life lessons, your talents you blessed each of us with and most of all for your love you showed to us every chance you could.Adel is survived by her two sons, Daniel & Adam Galanffy, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
