James Morse, age 69, of Flat passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Pidcoke Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. James was born on December 25, 1944 in Gatesville, Texas to the late Jack and Minnie Waddill Morse. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1963. He began college at Tarleton State University and was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving until 1971. After his military service, he completed his bachelor’s degree with honors in Accounting and Business from Tarleton. He began his career at South Fort Hood, working there for 36 years until his retirement in 2006. James loved to farm and ranch throughout his life in Coryell County. He married Connie Whigham on July 4, 1982. He attended White Mound Baptist Church, Flat Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie Morse in 2008; and brother, Jackie Morse. James is survived by his children, Mindy Morse, Sherrie Sheets and husband, Keith, and Eric Vogt and wife, Wendy; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
