Jo Marie January

Jo January, age 59, of Gatesville passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the funeral home. Jo was born on December 8, 1954 in Gatesville, Texas to Ernest and Robbie Mensch Farris. Jo loved life and she loved children; she ran a childcare business in her home and all of the children were “her babies.” One little girl she cared for and loved was Amber Tippit and she stayed close to Jo like a daughter. She went to work for Wal-Mart when the store first opened. She loved and helped everyone that she met. Jo was the first to hold and love the children that came into the store with their parents; at Wal-Mart they called her “Mama Jo.” Jo loved the outdoors including flowers, fishing, and 4-wheeling. She loved animals, her pets were her babies. Jo loved her family and all of their children were her children. She helped raise all of them, Clint, Misty, and Ashley. She loved big family gatherings, and especially enjoyed cooking for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and nephew, Clint Pelfrey. Jo is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ray January; sister, Margaret Ann Chance and husband, Charles; brother, Dewain Farris and wife, Marilyn; special nieces, Ashley Sinyard and husband, Terry and Misty Lenox; and numerous nieces and nephews.
